What 🬛 means

It forms one patch in a block picture.

Cells number left to right, top to bottom; 2 and 6 stay open. “Sextant” echoes “quadrant” and names six blocks in one character cell.

How did teletext use six-cell mosaics?

It turned character cells into simple pictures.

UK teletext broadcast text and block graphics to TVs from the early 1970s. A joint 1976 specification defined the 2×3 grid; cells could join or show narrow gaps.

The same pattern appears in the TRS-80 (1977) and Oric (1983) home-computer character sets.
