What 🬑 means
It fills two of a character cell’s six mini-cells.
Number the cells left to right, top to bottom: 1–2, 3–4, 5–6. This tile fills 2 and 5.
A 1976 teletext specification describes this six-cell grid. Semigraphics fills text cells with blocks to draw low-resolution pictures: TRS-80 computers and teletext used 23 mosaics in the 1970s–80s; France’s Minitel used them from the early 1980s until 2012. Teletext let adjacent cells touch or sit apart by thin gaps. “Sextant” extends “quadrant,” the four-part block idea, to six; a 2023 code example maps pixel grids to sextant strings.
Questions people ask
1Why does 🬑 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
