What 🬒 means
It fills the top row and lower-left cell. The numbers run by row: 1–2 at top, 3–4 in the middle, 5–6 at bottom.
The Teletext character set’s 2×3 mosaics date to its UK origins in the early 1970s; Teletext became common across Europe. Mosaics let text pages draw maps and charts with cell graphics. A 1977 report on Ceefax, the BBC’s Teletext service, says designers reused text cells because line drawing was too complex for inexpensive receivers. Unicode preserves these forms in character data for old files and emulators.
The Teletext spacing options in the 2003 specification let mosaic cells appear joined or separated by narrow gaps. That changes the gaps between tiles, not the character itself.
