What 🬰 means
A tile for low-resolution text graphics.
Home computers and UK teletext used 2-by-3 cells for coarse pictures in the 1970s; teletext’s 1976 standard included the set. France’s Minitel used similar graphics from the early 1980s to 2012.
The 2019 Unicode proposal uses “sextant” by analogy with “quadrant.” Its 1976 teletext rules allowed joined cells or narrow gaps; the display changed, not the pattern.
