What 🬕 means

It fills four cells of a six-part grid.

A sextant splits a cell into 2 × 3 parts, numbered left to right, top to bottom; this tile fills 1, 2, 3, and 5. British teletext developed in the early 1970s to broadcast information pages, and its 1976 specification used mosaic graphics. The TRS-80 used the same grid; its cells were called squots (“square dots”). Older quadrant blocks split cells in four; sextants add a row of detail.

Why does 🬕 show as a box?

Usually the terminal's font or renderer lacks the glyph. As of 2026, terminal software may draw block shapes itself or rely on the configured font, so display varies.
