What 🬖 means
Two of its six blocks are filled: middle-right and bottom-left. A sextant cell has two columns and three rows.
PolyMorphic Systems’ 1977 manual documents a six-part graphics set. Teletext and France’s Minitel, an interactive text service, also drew with 2×3 mosaics. Unicode called these “sextants” by analogy with older four-part “quadrant” blocks; teletext art exhibitions have used the grid since 2021.
Why can 🬖 look different?
The display mode or font can change its appearance. In teletext, control codes could separate the mosaic blocks or join them. When the active font lacks this glyph, a box or blank can appear although the text still contains 🬖.
