Camping, a campsite or a weekend in a tent.

The picture is a small scene rather than an object: a tent, usually with trees, and on some phones a hint of a path or hills. That is why it says "we are going camping" rather than "here is a tent". People use it for tent camping, campervan trips, festival camping, glamping and summer camps alike. You will also see it in posts from travel accounts, parks and outdoor shops about trails and campsites.

It stays literal. Unlike many emoji it has picked up no well-known hidden or rude second meaning, so you can use it with family, colleagues and strangers without worry.

What does it mean when someone sends 🏕️?

They are planning, doing or remembering a camping trip.

After a suggestion like "free next weekend?", a lone 🏕️ means "yes, let's camp". Under a photo of a lake or a forest it is a caption. From a friend who is away, it can explain the silence: they are out in the woods, maybe with patchy signal. Only the words around it tell you whether the trip is booked or a daydream, so if it matters, ask.
