What Ꮝ means
It marks the consonant s without a vowel.
Sequoyah developed the syllabary in the early nineteenth century, moving from word signs to sound signs. The Cherokee Nation adopted it in 1825; the Cherokee Phoenix newspaper printed Cherokee and English in 1828. A printed Bible supplied shapes, not their Cherokee sound values.
A rock inscription at Kentucky’s Red Bird River Shelter has been proposed as older Cherokee writing, but its reading is disputed.

1Why does Ꮝ show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Cherokee block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
