What 𡚨 means
Its reading depends on which source record is intended.
Taiwan’s CNS 11643 standard for Chinese text tied this code to two entries: one has the Mandarin reading chì and was glossed as “a woman of improper conduct”; the other has the Mandarin reading bǐ and was catalogued as a variant of 妣.
妣, a classical term for a deceased mother, appears in the Kangxi Dictionary (1716), a Chinese character dictionary. The compatibility block let older character codes convert to Unicode and back without losing their distinctions. Unicode 17.0 gave the second source form its own code point, 𡚧; the Unicode 18.0 chart lists 𡚨 as canonically equivalent to 𡚨, so normalization can change its code point.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𡚨 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the CJK Compatibility Ideographs Supplement block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
