What 𡧈 means
The written form predates its Unicode encoding.
Taiwan’s 2024 Ministry of Education dictionary records 𡧈 as a variant of 宇. It cites historical writing and older Chinese character dictionaries, including 《四聲篇海》 and 《字彙補》.
𡧈 comes from the sixth character plane—a section of the character list—in Taiwan’s CNS 11643-1992 text-encoding standard, which included Ministry-listed variants. Canonical normalization maps it to 𡧈. The standardized sequence 𡧈︀ (𡧈 followed by UFE00, a variation selector) preserves its specified glyph.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𡧈 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the CJK Compatibility Ideographs Supplement block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
