What 嬾 means
嬾 is a compatibility form of 嬾, meaning “lazy” or “idle.”
Shuowen Jiezi, a Han-era Chinese dictionary from around 100 CE, defines 嬾 as “slack,” “idle,” or “lying down.” Taiwan’s 2024 Ministry of Education character-variant dictionary lists it as a variant of standard 懶.
Why does Unicode keep a separate code point?
It preserves a source-text distinction from Taiwan’s older standard.
The Unicode chart maps 嬾 to source T7-4651 in Taiwan’s CNS 11643-1992 character set and pairs it with 嬾󠄁 (selector FE01). The block supports conversion to Unicode and back. Canonical normalization changes 嬾 to 嬾; FE01 selects its variant glyph.

Questions people ask
1Why does 嬾 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the CJK Compatibility Ideographs Supplement block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
