CNS form of 寘

111/542

寘 represents the same Chinese character as 寘 (Mandarin zhì, “put/place”); it is the Taiwan form used in CNS 11643, the standard for exchanging Chinese text. Text normalization can replace 寘 with 寘.

Text symbol

What 寘 means

It lets the Taiwan code round-trip through Unicode. Taiwan lists 寘 as CNS 15-412B in plane 15, one section of its character set. CNS 11643 expanded from two planes to seven in 1992. Unicode included this supplement so CNS characters from planes 3–7 and 15 could survive conversion out and back. The mapped character is 寘, a Chinese verb meaning “put” or “place.”

Technical and archival; Unicode reserves this form for CNS round-trip conversion.

Software that normalizes 寘 may replace it with 寘, losing the separate CNS code.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 寘 show as a box on some devices?

Not every system ships a font for the CJK Compatibility Ideographs Supplement block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
