What 𧢮 means
The old sense is “seek by looking.” 䚕 is glossed “seek” in the Shuowen Jiezi, a Chinese character dictionary completed around 100 CE; its variant 𧢮 is glossed 求視, “seek by looking,” in the later Guangyun, a Chinese rhyme dictionary (1007–1008).
Why does it have a compatibility code?
It was included for a Taiwan CNS 11643 mapping. That standard stores extra Han characters in numbered planes (3–7 and 15); the Unicode supplement lets legacy text convert to Unicode and back. Unicode 17.0 moved its T5-7A38 form to 䚕, while 𧢮 remains canonically mapped to 𧢮.
Canonical normalization rewrites 𧢮 as 𧢮, so the original code point is lost. Preserve it where the Taiwan source form matters.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𧢮 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the CJK Compatibility Ideographs Supplement block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
