What 見 means
Read it as the standard character 見, with its ordinary senses. Chinese 見 covers seeing, meeting, and viewpoint; Japanese uses it in 見る (“to see”) and 見える (“to be visible”).
The oldest recorded ancestor of 見 appears in early Chinese oracle-bone inscriptions, divination records carved into bone or shell. Later bronze inscriptions, bamboo slips from the ancient state of Chu, and seal script show its shape evolving. The eye above a person pictures seeing.
Unicode retains 見 for round-trip conversion with Korea’s KS C 5601 character set: a converter can send the old entry out, then restore it without losing its identity. It is a legacy encoding form, not a new word or an ancient variant.
