What 峃 means
It names a mountain covered in many large rocks. The Mandarin pronunciation of 峃 is written in pinyin as xué: start with a soft hiss like “sh,” made farther forward in the mouth; round the lips as the vowel moves toward “e,” and let the tone rise.
An Eastern Han Chinese-character dictionary, Shuowen Jiezi, gives this rocky-land sense for the traditional form 嶨. The Tang-era poem 会合联句 uses 荦峃 for the rugged Ba mountains. As of 2026, Wenzhou records use 峃 in 峃口, a place name in Wencheng County, Zhejiang.
Rare in ordinary prose; it appears in classical writing and Chinese place names.
In 峃口, replacing 峃 with 学 changes the place name.

Questions people ask
1Why does 峃 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
