Chinese character 徾

4543/20992

徾 means following one another in classical Chinese, chiefly in 徾徾. In Mandarin, it sounds roughly like “may” with a rising tone; its Latin-letter spelling is méi. Sent alone, it reads as deliberate literary play, not a clear chat reaction.

What 徾 means

The earliest secure literary witness is Wang Yi’s Eastern Han poem 《九思》.

It appears in a line about foxes beside mandarin ducks’ calls. The Taiwan Ministry of Education’s 2024 dictionary of variant Chinese characters notes that 《說文解字》, an early Chinese character dictionary, does not list 徾.

Should I send 徾 alone?

Only as deliberate literary play.

Classical and deliberately literary; alone, it reads as wordplay.

It is not an instruction to follow someone.
