What 眡 means
An old variant of 視: “to see or look.”
Bone inscriptions used for divination show 眡 by c. 1250–1000 BCE; bronze, seal, and clerical forms follow. Shuowen Jiezi, an early Chinese dictionary, records it as an ancient form of 視.
Another old dictionary, Hongwu Zhengyun, glosses 眡娗 as “a closed or mocking manner”; that reading belongs to the compound, not 眡 alone.
Why use 眡 instead of 視 or 视?
Use 眡 when preserving the older written form matters.
視 is the traditional Chinese form; 视 is its simplified counterpart. 眡 is an older variant, not a stronger or newer meaning.

1Why does 眡 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
