What 覼 means
覼 is a literary Chinese character used in 覼縷, “a full account.”
Shuowen Jiezi, an early Chinese dictionary, glosses it as 好視 (“favorable-looking”). Later sources define 覶縷/覼縷 as 委曲詳言, a detailed, painstaking explanation; 覼 is catalogued as a variant of 覶. The earliest located attestation of 覼 is on a Western Zhou bronze vessel, in an inscription conventionally labelled 覼作父戊卣. The dedication records an object made for Father Wu; it does not show that the character already meant “detailed explanation.” A Tang example uses 覶縷 for setting something out in full.
Someone sent me 覼—what does it mean?
Alone, it gives too little context to infer a tone.
Treat it as written text, a quotation, or part of a literary word; ask for the surrounding phrase or its source.
Different fonts can draw its strokes differently; that changes its appearance, not the sender’s meaning or tone.
A literary, lexicographic Chinese variant; in ordinary messages it can read as specialist or deliberately archaizing.
Do not assign sarcasm, affection, or annoyance without context.

1Questions people ask
1Why does 覼 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
