What 觊 means
It expresses the wish to obtain something, from hoping to outright coveting.
The traditional form 覬 appears in 《说文解字》, an early Chinese dictionary: its gloss links the character to wishing, and its analysis connects 見 with 豈. 《左传》, an early historical chronicle, uses 觊觎 for subjects who do not presume on those above them; later examples apply the compound to coveting a throne or office.
How do I type 觊?
Type ji, then choose 觊. In a Chinese Pinyin input method, the tone-marked reading is jì, but ji can produce many characters, so select 觊 from the candidate list. Handwriting or stroke input also works if pronunciation is the obstacle.
On its own, 觊 is a less familiar written choice; it is most familiar in 觊觎.
