What 詥 means
It means harmonious or agreeing speech. A Han-era Chinese dictionary, the Shuowen Jiezi, analyzes 詥 as 言 (“speech”) plus 合, the sound element, and explains it through 諧 (“harmonious”). Its dictionary readings are Mandarin Pinyin hé, “harmonious,” and gé, “bringing words or views together.” The syllables are approximate: hé begins with a breathy h and rises in pitch; gé begins with a hard g and also rises.
As of 2026, Xuzhou Mandarin also records 詥 as a regional verb for quarrelling, including in 詥架. That use belongs to the Xuzhou variety; it does not replace the classical dictionary senses.
The reading depends on whether the text uses classical dictionary glosses or Xuzhou Mandarin.
Use “quarrel” only when the Xuzhou dialect context supports it.
