What 🥂 means
From an old drinking ritual, not an older symbol.
Ancient Greeks poured libations, drinks offered to the gods, and Romans drank to companions and emperors. Clinking glasses became part of European toasts later, and nobody knows exactly why. A popular story says the clink sloshed wine between cups to prove neither was poisoned; there's no credible evidence for it. The idea that the noise scared off evil spirits is just as speculative.
Warm, celebratory and a little formal.
Think twice under bad news; clinking glasses beside misfortune can read as mocking.
Don't confuse it with

2Congratulations, with confetti.
Suggested pairing: pop the cork, then toast — a celebration in two beats.
Worth knowing
- 🥂 is a single code point, so it survives copying through almost anything — old databases, SMS gateways, printer drivers.
