What ॼ means
Use a Sindhi-aware Devanagari layout.
The shortcut for Sindhi jja, the implosive consonant conventionally transcribed with Latin j, depends on the layout: Lexilogos uses j== (2026), while Keyman's Common Devanagari layout maps j to ॼ (2021).
A keyboard enters the character; a font draws it. If you see an empty box, the active Devanagari font may not include this letter.
What sound does ॼ represent?
It marks Sindhi’s implosive consonant, conventionally transcribed with Latin j. An implosive is made with an inward-moving airstream, so ॼ marks a distinct Sindhi sound rather than plain ज.
Sindhi has three other implosive Devanagari letters: ॻ, ॾ, and ॿ. In the Arabic-derived script also used for Sindhi, often called Perso-Arabic, the corresponding letter is ڄ.
Sindhi has a long history in Devanagari: the script was used during the Soomra period in Sindh’s history, and a specimen is dated 1636. In the twentieth century, Devanagari and Perso-Arabic were dominant scripts for Sindhi.
In Sindhi writing, ॼ marks the implosive consonant conventionally transcribed with Latin j.
Keep ॼ where Sindhi distinguishes this implosive consonant from plain ज.
