down-pointing atomic bomb

Down-Pointing Atomic Bomb

100/686

𜱣 is a downward-pointing bomb image from an old computer character set. Text-screen game programs could use ready-made pictures like this instead of drawing every shape themselves.

What 𜱣 means

A ready-made bomb picture for text-screen games.

Sharp's MZ-700 (1982) stored it in its European second character table; the Amstrad CPC BASIC set also included it. The MZ's second table held game graphics and could not be typed directly: its built-in BASIC language needed POKE, a command that writes to memory, to display one. Unicode preserved these legacy graphics for text exchange.
