What 찾 means
Enter ㅊ, then ㅏ, then ㅈ in a Korean IME.
An input method editor (IME) combines individual Korean letters, called jamo, into a block for one syllable. Unicode can also store this block as the position-specific sequence 찾; Unicode normalization, a standard text conversion, can combine that sequence into 찾.
What does 찾 mean in Korean?
찾 is a syllable used in Korean words about finding or seeking. The meaning of the full verb 찾다 is “to find” or “look for.” It also appears in verbs for searching for information, visiting, calling for someone, recovering something, or regaining a state; those meanings belong to the complete words.
Hangul was designed for writing Korean with letters grouped into syllable blocks. Its design was completed in 1443 and promulgated in 1446. An earlier spelling of 찾다, ᄎᆞᆽ다, appears in the 1459 Korean text Worin seokbo.
The final consonant changes sound with what follows: 찾아 is pronounced roughly “cha-ja,” while 찾다 is “chat-tta.” In Korean, the ㅈ carries into the next syllable in 찾아; before ㄷ in 찾다, it sounds like a t and makes the following consonant tense.
In Korean writing, `찾` is a syllable inside words; by itself it does not mean “find.”
For “find,” use a complete word such as `찾다`; `찾` alone is one syllable.

1Why does 찾 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
