Hangul Syllable Milg

4098/11172

As of 2026, 밁 has no established standalone slang or reaction meaning; it is a Hangul syllable block. Its parts are ㅁ, ㅣ, and final cluster ㄺ, and the Korean word around it supplies the reading. A Korean IME may briefly form it while typing, then move ㄱ into the next syllable.

What 밁 means

It is one Korean syllable written as a block.

Hangul is the Korean writing system; each Hangul syllable block groups letters for one syllable. 밁 combines the initial consonant ㅁ, vowel ㅣ, and final cluster ㄺ (ㄹ ㄱ). This describes its spelling, not a separate message; read it as part of a Korean word.

The block's history belongs to Hangul's wider story. The National Hangeul Museum records the first reference to Hunminjeongeum, a work explaining the script and its principles, in Sejong Sillok, the annals of King Sejong, in 1443. Hunminjeongeum was published in 1446. Sejong presented the writing system as a way for people to learn to write and express their thoughts. Hangul later appeared in personal letters, petitions, checks used in commerce, royal writing, and government publications, while its official status varied. Those changes concern the script's public role, not a special meaning for 밁.

Why did 밁 appear while I typed Korean?

It can be a temporary stage while a Korean input method builds a syllable.

A Korean input method editor (IME) combines letters as you type. Typing ㅁ ㅣ ㄹ first forms 밀; adding ㄱ can join the final ㄹ as ㄺ, making 밁. When the next vowel arrives, the IME may move ㄱ to the next syllable. This block can be a brief composing state rather than the text you meant to enter.

Unicode also allows a Hangul syllable to be stored as one precomposed block or as a sequence of component jamo (letters). The two forms can look identical while their underlying characters differ; that is an encoding distinction, not a different reading.

In Korean text, it is ordinary spelling; alone, it can look like accidental or unfinished input.

Avoid sending it alone as a reaction unless you mean to show this exact syllable.

Why does 밁 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
