What ䷎ means
It means modesty backed by steady action. Qian is the Chinese name associated with this hexagram, translated as modesty or humility. Its advice is active: keep your sense of your own ability in proportion, let conduct speak, and finish the work you undertake.
The Zhouyi is an ancient Chinese divination text later known as the Yijing or I Ching. The earliest surviving Zhouyi manuscript, found at the Mawangdui tomb site in China, was copied about 175 B.C.E.; this dates the surviving text, not the first appearance of the hexagram's line pattern.
Why is modesty shown as earth over mountain?
The image is Earth above Mountain. The mountain's height sits beneath earth, hidden rather than displayed. The received image turns that arrangement into a model of capacity held in check, not weakness.
The Zhouyi's judgments and line statements serve divination, where the question and changing lines shape a reading. In the later commentary tradition, Qian also becomes an ethical model: a virtue linked to ritual conduct and self-cultivation.
What does it advise in a divination reading?
It recommends restraint without passivity. In a reading, check whether pride or showmanship is crowding out steady work; Qian's modesty still expects you to act and finish.
Later I Ching methods connect Qian with other hexagrams by reversing the line order, changing each line to its opposite, or reading the three-line patterns nested inside a hexagram. These are interpretive links between figures, not alternate names for Qian.
Reflective and advisory: it praises restraint without asking you to shrink from action.

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
