What 𘬠 means

Its numbered Unicode name is a label, not a translation.

Khitan Small Script uses word signs and sound signs; sound signs usually cluster to spell words. Context shows whether this glyph stands alone or forms a cluster.

When was Khitan Small Script created?

It was made to write Khitan; its start date is debated.

Traditional accounts credit Prince Yelü Diela and date the script's creation to about 925 CE. A 2026 study argues it was systematized later, identifying the earliest securely dated surviving inscription as 1051.

Khitan Small Script stood beside a distinct Khitan Large Script. The Jurchen later borrowed and adapted Khitan writing models, but that link between scripts does not establish a one-to-one counterpart for this character.

Why does 𘬠 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
