What 𘬟 means
Its Unicode name identifies the character, not a Khitan word.
In Khitan writing, a logogram is one sign for a whole word. Khitan Small Script also used sound signs, which usually joined in word clusters; a lone glyph may therefore be only part of a word.
When was Khitan Small Script used?
Traditional histories date its design to 924 or 925.
Those accounts credit Yelü Diela, brother of Liao's founding emperor, with devising it. Its forms drew on Chinese characters, and scholars link its phonetic side to Uyghur writing. A 2026 study argues it was systematized and widely used later; the earliest securely dated surviving text is a 1051 grave epitaph. It continued under Jin rule until officials abolished it in 1191; Jurchen writing later adapted Khitan scripts.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𘬟 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
