What 𘭪 means
It writes the ra part inside a longer word.
bara’ān is the scholarly Latin-letter spelling of a Khitan word translated “right side.” Here, 𘭪 supplies the ra segment; the whole word carries the meaning, not this sign alone.
How did Khitan small script develop?
It followed the Khitan large script and later influenced Jurchen writing.
The small script took shape around 925; its earliest known datable text is from 1053. It was used under the Liao and Jin states.
In the Jin period, Jurchens adapted Khitan models for their own large and small scripts; the Jin court abolished Khitan writing in 1191.
