large type piece lower left and upper left arc

Large Type Piece: Lower Left Stroke and Upper Left Arc

553/686

This is a joined segment for oversized lettering, not a complete letter. Hewlett-Packard (HP) used it in the large character set for its 2640 terminals, keyboard-and-screen devices for working with a computer.

What 𜸮 means

The 2640 set built each big letter from joined pieces.

An HP character-set guide dated October 1975 lists this piece in the optional Large Character Set for 2640 terminals.

Each large letter occupied a 3-by-3 grid of ordinary screen positions, with neighboring shapes touching edge to edge. This one supplies a lower-left stroke and an upper-left arc. Unicode keeps the pieces as individual text characters, so a suitable font can build the same large lettering in a plain-text file.
