What means
It was one tile for an oversized letter. In the 1970s, Hewlett-Packard (HP) computer terminals—screens with keyboards for working with a computer—used a special character set to make large headlines. Nine ordinary character cells arranged in a 33 grid formed each letter, so the whole text line stayed its usual size. This piece draws a curved lower-right corner with a tail. Unicode preserves the set for software that recreates old terminals.

Questions people ask
1Why does show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
