Large Type Piece Raised Upper Left Arc

560/686

𜸵 is a curved piece for large text on HP terminals in the 1970s. Neighboring pieces combine to form an oversized character; alone, this one is a building block, not a letter or punctuation mark.

What 𜸵 means

It helped form headline-size text. The HP 2640 terminal family began in 1974. A terminal is a screen-and-keyboard station linked to a larger computer.

HP's large-character font arranged these pieces in a square grid. Their strokes met across neighboring cell edges, so separate tiles read as one oversized letter; this one supplies the raised upper-left curve.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 𜸵 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
