What ᤍ means
It writes Limbu’s “d” consonant with an inherent vowel. This letter belongs in a word or syllable: by default, the consonant carries a short, open “o” vowel, while a vowel mark changes that vowel.
Limbu is in the Kiranti language group and is distantly related to Lepcha and Tibetan. A surviving catalogue dates a Sirijanga alphabet book to the early 18th century; its introduction refers to the Buddha, Padmasambhava and lamas. The oldest known surviving Limbu-script writings were collected in Darjeeling in the 1850s.
Modern revision began in Kalimpong in 1925 and added voiced letters such as DA. In Nepal and Sikkim, Limbu writing supported teaching, mundhum (traditional religious teachings and ritual texts), religious books and ethnic revival; printed and ritual literature grew since the 1990s.
Why does ᤍ look different across sources?
Font coverage and script era both change the shape. The encoded repertoire includes forms from manuscripts, early-modern publications and current Limbu writing; their glyphs can differ substantially.
If a font lacks Limbu coverage, an app may show a box or missing-glyph mark. That is a display problem, not a different letter.
How do I type ᤍ?
A dedicated Limbu input method is the practical route. Install a Limbu or Yakthung Pan keyboard. A Latin keyboard alone will not enter this script reliably; a Unicode Limbu font draws the character after the input method enters it.
Neutral and orthographic: it signals Limbu-script text or a quoted sample, not a tone.
A lone ᤍ is not a reliable mood signal; read it as a quoted or incomplete bit of Limbu text.

1Why does ᤍ show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
