What means
It fills the bottom-right square in a 4 4 character cell. That one-sixteenth tile is a semigraphic—a preset block that combines with neighboring text cells to sketch pictures.
The East German Robotron Z9001, introduced in 1984, listed it as entry DF in its graphics table. These fixed-cell mosaics let the computer build coarse images without addressing every screen pixel individually. Block and box-drawing characters entered Unicode in 1991 to preserve older computer and terminal sets; later proposals added more platform-specific shapes.

1Questions people ask
1Why does show as a box on some devices?
It is recent: Unicode added it in version 16.0 (2024), and phones and computers whose fonts are older than that have nothing to draw it with. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
