What does the bold script m mean?
It is a distinct mathematical symbol; its formula supplies the value.
The bold script m is a mathematical letter form. Mathematical writing can use letter styles to keep different symbols apart, so this is not just an ordinary m made heavier. The style marks this form, while the surrounding formula supplies its value.
The 1999 proposal for mathematical alphabets explains the convention: changing a letter’s style can change which symbol it denotes. It proposed giving each form its own character so plain-text formulas could preserve those distinctions for readers and simple search. This m was designed as one member of an alphabet, not a one-off sign.
Math-specific: its bold script styling identifies a symbol, not emphasis on a whole word.
Ordinary-word searches for plain m may miss this mathematical character.

2Questions people ask
2Why did 𝓶 turn into m?
Text normalization. Some Unicode cleanup forms, called NFKC and NFKD, map mathematical letters back to basic Latin, so 𝓶 can become m. That removes the style distinction; keep the original character when the formula relies on it.
Why does 𝓶 look different in another font?
Font support. Fonts draw script letters with different designs; a font without this character may show an empty box. The underlying text character is still 𝓶.
