What 𝓵 means

The formula supplies its value; alone, it names no fixed quantity.
Math fonts used the style before a 1999 proposal encoded it to distinguish variables. Text cleanup such as NFKC/NFKD can flatten it to plain l.

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
