What 𖹲 means
It is a Medefaidrin letter, not a stand-alone message.
Medefaidrin is the sacred language associated with the Obɛri Ɔkaimɛ Christian community in Akwa Ibom, Nigeria. Its script uses an English-style capital and small-letter distinction, but the letters belong to a distinct writing system. Keyman documents a phonetic US QWERTY layout for typing Medefaidrin as of 2026.
Why did the church create its own writing system?
It gave the church’s sacred language a written form. Medefaidrin emerged around 1927. Church tradition says the Holy Spirit revealed the language to Bishop Michael Ukpong; the church secretary, Akpan Udofia, transcribed it into writing. An alphabet chart documented its letters by 1947.
Members used the language for worship, lessons, notebooks, and letters. A 2010 account describes it as a private community language under British colonial rule; church-run schools using it faced official persecution. Lessons restarted in Sunday school around 1986, and University of Uyo documentation work began in 2008.
Why does 𖹲 appear as a box?
Your font may not include Medefaidrin.
Microsoft’s Windows font table lists a Medefaidrin face in its Sans Serif Collection as of 2026. If the glyph appears as an empty box, switch to a font that supports Medefaidrin.
Read it as written language from a specific church community, not decorative lettering.
A lone letter may be a text fragment, not a complete reply.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𖹲 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Medefaidrin block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
