What 𑘓 means
It marks Marathi’s “ch” consonant. A vowel sign or virama (a mark that cancels the inherent vowel) changes how it joins other letters.
Modi lipi (the Modi script) descends from the Nagari family and served Marathi administration: letters, revenue and land records. Balbodh, a form of Devanagari, served literary Marathi. Modi’s history reaches the fifteenth century; its earliest surviving document dates to the early seventeenth century. Print favored Devanagari in the nineteenth century; Modi was discontinued in the 1950s. In 2024, a school in Satara, Maharashtra, taught it for archival reading.
What if someone sends 𑘓 alone?
Treat it as a letter sample. A lone 𑘓 cannot identify a complete word or reaction; surrounding Modi text is needed to read it.
A standalone glyph reads as archival or script-study material.
