What 𞗲 means

It represents one in Ol Onal.

It is used in Bhumij numbers; the language is also written in Odia, Bengali, Devanagari, and Latin scripts.

How did Ol Onal become a Bhumij script?

A community contest chose it from three scripts in 1992. Mahendra Nath Sardar developed Ol Onal during 1981–1992 to write Bhumij. Examples from 2020–2022 show Ol Onal in ritual writing, inscriptions, banners, and wedding invitations.

The original digit designs changed when digital fonts arrived in 2013 because they were difficult to reproduce. Fonts from 2013–2014 mapped Ol Onal onto Latin characters; without the matching font, a file could display those underlying characters.

Why does 𞗲 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
