Philippine Single Punctuation

᜵ marks a brief pause in Philippine-script writing, roughly like a comma. Tagalog (Baybayin), Hanunó'o, Buhid, and Tagbanwa writing share it.

What ᜵ means

It marks a short pause between phrases. Hanunó'o uses it to separate phrases; its paired mark ᜶ signals a longer or sentence-like pause and may close a poem.

These four scripts share features with scripts descended from Brahmi, an old South Asian writing system. Their route to the Philippines is uncertain: they may have traveled by way of Kawi, a historical Southeast Asian script, between the 10th–14th centuries. Those dates describe a possible route for the scripts, not a known origin date for ᜵.

Why does ᜵ show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
