Playground Slide

13/17

🛝 is a children's playground slide: a short ladder, a platform and a chute to slide down. People send it about trips to the park, playdates, summer holidays and water slides, or for the carefree feeling of being a kid again. Beside numbers or bad news, it means something is going downhill.

EmojiSince 2021

What 🛝 means

A playground slide, and everything a playground stands for: kids, play and fresh air.

Most platforms draw the classic park slide: steps up one side, a small platform at the top and a curved or straight chute down to the ground, in bright plastic colours. It is the picture of an ordinary afternoon out, which is exactly how most people use it: "park after school? 🛝", photos of toddlers at the top of the chute, a nursery or kindergarten announcement, a weekend plan with the cousins.

Because there is no separate water-slide emoji, 🛝 also stands in for water parks, pool slides and inflatable slides at a summer fair. Grown-ups use it with a wink for anything that feels like being a kid again: a day off, a theme park trip, or a joke about having more fun than the children they came with.

What does it mean when someone sends 🛝?

Almost always a cheerful, literal invitation or report: let's play, we played.

Read the words around it. With a photo, a time or a place, it means a real playground, and the tone is warm and family-friendly. With "wheee" or "here we go", it is the feeling of letting go and enjoying the ride.

Next to grades, sales figures, a mood update or a chart, the chute turns into a metaphor: things are sliding downhill, sometimes with a shrug, sometimes as a slippery slope. The surrounding words tell you whether the sender is laughing about the drop or worried by it.

Cheerful, childlike and innocent; fine in family chats, class groups and workplace small talk about weekends.

Older phones not updated since 2022 may show it as an empty box, so the recipient sees nothing.

Worth knowing

  • As of 2026 the slide is the only piece of playground equipment with its own emoji: there is no swing, seesaw or climbing frame, so 🛝 ends up standing for the whole playground.
  • There is no water-slide emoji either, which is why pool and water-park posts borrow the playground slide.

Questions people ask

3

Is the 🛝 slide emoji flirty?

Usually not. It is a children's slide, and that is how nearly everyone uses it. Occasionally someone opening a private chat may use it as a pun on "sliding into your DMs", but without that joke in the words around it, read it as a playground.

Why does 🛝 show as an empty box on my phone?

Your device is missing the font update. The slide arrived with Emoji 14.0 and reached most phones and computers in 2022 updates, so a device not updated since then has no picture for it. Updating the system fixes it.

Is there a water slide emoji?

No. People use 🛝 for water slides and water parks, often with , or beside it to make the water clear.
