⁈

question exclamation mark

Question Exclamation Mark

48/69

⁈ gives a question an emphatic edge: surprise, disbelief, or alarm. In ordinary prose, ?! or !? is easier to recognize.

Text symbol

What ⁈ means

It marks a question with surprise, disbelief, or alarm.

In vertical text, ⁈ keeps question and exclamation punctuation together in one character; for compatibility, it can be converted to the ordinary two-character sequence ?!.

Playful, emphatic, and typographic; uncommon in everyday messages and formal prose.

As of 2026, ?! or !? is the safer choice when readers need to recognize the punctuation at a glance.

1

Why does ⁈ show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
