What 🠪 means
It points onward: the next step, the result, or “look here”. You’ll see it between steps (Wash 🠪 Dry 🠪 Fold), and it can sit before a link, serve as a bullet in a list, or show cause and effect (late train 🠪 missed meeting). It usually carries no tone of its own; the words around it say what it points to.
Its family began as symbol fonts: Lucida Icons, Arrows, and Stars, designed in 1990–1991 and released as Microsoft Wingdings in 1992. In those fonts the arrow was stored as an ordinary keyboard character drawn in a special font, so without Wingdings 3 this one turned into a plain ª. Unicode gave the arrow its own code in 2014, so it now travels as real text between apps, as long as a font can draw it.
Because it is a text character, it takes the colour and size of the text around it. Its exact shape depends on the font, and a font that lacks it may show a box, sometimes with a question mark inside.
Neutral and practical: a pointer for notes, slides and instructions, not usually an emotional signal.
On some devices it shows as an empty box, so the reader may miss your arrow.

5Questions people ask
2Is 🠪 an emoji?
No. It is a text character, so it follows the style of the surrounding text and isn’t meant to turn into a picture like .
Why do I see a box instead of the arrow?
Your font doesn’t include it. Switching to a font that has it usually fixes this; a device update helps only if it brings such a font.
