What ℘ means
The Weierstrass p notation appears in C. Hermite's work from 1849; it later became linked with Weierstrass's theory. ℘ repeats along two independent directions on a plane of real and imaginary numbers.
In applications, wp abbreviates ℘; its rate of change describes elliptic curves and related equations. It also appears in classical motion problems with a cubic potential; Jacobi elliptic functions share the theory.
Formal mathematical notation for formulas and technical explanations.
Treat it as the Weierstrass function, not a styled P.

1Questions people ask
1Why does ℘ show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
