What means
It is the Sunuwar numeral for two. Krishna Bahadur Jentich developed the modern form of the script in 1942 for writing Sunuwar. Its original ten digits represented decimal values corresponding to Hindu-Arabic 0–9; the Sunuwar name for this digit is ni’ashi.
The community name Koĩts-BreɁse is also used for the script. A community history describes older inscriptions on animal skins, copied as they faded and discussed again in the 1940s. It also records Sunuwar numeral forms presented at a conference in 1943.
The script is its own writing system, though its structure was modeled on Latin. By the turn of the 21st century, users had borrowed a letter from the neighboring Limbu script to represent a lengthened a sound. By 2021, Sunuwar-script histories, newspapers, teaching materials, government records, literature, and calendars were documented in Sikkim. In Nepal, Sunuwar materials also appeared in Devanagari for school, government, and online use. Using this digit places a number in a Sunuwar-script context.
