What 𘢡 means

Use a Unicode input tool for Tangut component 162. Enter U188A1 in a character map or Unicode input tool; exact keyboard steps depend on your system. Pronunciation-based input is not a practical route because reconstructed Tangut readings lack a shared consensus.

Components help scholars index and analyze complete Tangut characters. Unicode also permits them in Ideographic Description Sequences, formal strings that describe how a character is built. 𘢡 is technical material for studying the script, not a message symbol.

What does Tangut component 162 mean?

It is a structural part, not a complete Tangut word. Tangut writing was commissioned in 1036 by ruler Li Yuanhao as part of building a state distinct from Song China; a native script served state administration and Buddhist translation. Surviving evidence includes a 12th-century book about Tangut pronunciation and a manuscript probably from the 12th or early 13th century. Tangut books also covered Buddhist, Chinese-translated, Confucian, military, and literary works. Writing continued after the empire fell; a scholarly chronology runs from 1036–1502.

The Tangut script drew visual and character-building ideas from Chinese writing, but recorded a different language; its creation also followed scripts made by the neighboring Khitan people for their states. Scholars organized characters through several dictionary traditions, so component lists are not one ancient, universal system. A component can take different semantic or phonetic roles in different complete characters. In Li Fanwen's 1997 Tangut dictionary index, Radical 162 groups nine entries; this is an indexing fact, not a translation of 𘢡.

Technical and archival: suited to Tangut dictionaries, script analysis, and font testing; out of place in ordinary prose.

Do not translate 𘢡 as a Chinese word; it is a Tangut component.
