What 𘣅 means
It is an indexing part, not a translated word.
Dictionaries group Tangut characters through competing component systems, and a part’s semantic role can be unclear.
Why was the Tangut script created?
Commissioned around 1036, the Tangut script served state business, Buddhist translation, and Tangut identity. It drew on Chinese writing principles and Khitan precedents, but stayed a distinct script.
11th-century editions and later Khara-Khoto manuscripts document it. Unicode’s component set brings together parts used in Tangut dictionaries; a 2023 proposal distinguishes this dotless form from a dotted radical used in a separate index.
If it appears as a box, your app’s or device’s font lacks the glyph.
Technical and archival; alone, it reads like a catalog entry.
Don’t read its label as a Tangut word.
Questions people ask
1Why does 𘣅 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
