What 𘩍 means
It is a component, not a complete word.
Tangut components serve as lookup parts in character dictionaries and as pieces in Ideographic Description Sequences (IDS), short formulas showing how a character’s parts are arranged. Here, “590” is an inventory number, not a sound or translation.
The Tangut script was commissioned by the Western Xia (Xixia) court around 1036 for writing the Tangut language. It served government and schooling, and Western Xia printed Buddhist texts in it. Tangut characters use a component-based structure also found in Chinese writing, but the script records a different language. The 12th-century character reference Sea of Characters analyzed compound characters by their parts; a component’s role depends on the character it belongs to. Unicode later brought component lists from several dictionaries together for indexing and IDS descriptions.
Why does 𘩍 show as a box?
The selected font may not include Tangut glyphs.
Tangut font support determines whether it appears: a font without coverage may show an empty box or replacement mark even when the encoded character is present. The display problem does not change the character.
Technical and archival in tone; it suits Tangut character study, dictionary indexing, and font testing.
