What 𘩎 means
It is a Tangut lookup component, not a word. Tangut (also called Xixia) is a historical script used to write the Tangut language. 𘩎 is a structural filing aid for finding full characters; a complete character gives the word and its reading.
Tangut glyphs can resemble Chinese characters at a glance, but the writing systems are unrelated. In Tangut, a “radical” is a structural lookup label, not a clue to a character’s meaning.
When was Tangut writing created?
The Tangut script began under Western Xia around 1036. Western Xia was a state in what is now northwestern China; its first emperor had the script made to write the Tangut language.
After Mongol forces ended Western Xia, the script remained in use under the Yuan and Ming dynasties, which later ruled China. Tangut appears in government records, private works, and religious texts; it became obsolete by the end of the Ming dynasty.
Scholars rediscovered Tangut texts in the late 19th century. In the early 20th century, Nikolai Nevsky’s work helped scholars decipher the script.
Specialist and scholarly: it signals Tangut character lookup, historical-text study, or Unicode work.
A standalone 𘩎 cannot be translated; a complete Tangut character carries the word and reading.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𘩎 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Tangut Components block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
