What 𗚴 means
It is a written word, not a picture of its meaning. Li Fanwen’s 2008 Tangut dictionary glosses 𗚴 as “a kind of tree.”
Tangut script was devised under Western Xia’s first emperor about 1036 CE. It served government, private writing, and Buddhist texts, and remained in use into the Yuan and Ming dynasties in China. Historical texts ran top to bottom in columns ordered from right to left.
Is 𗚴 a Chinese character?
No. It belongs to Tangut, a separate script. Chinese-like shapes do not make it Chinese: the writing systems are unrelated. Fonts and source traditions can give Tangut glyphs different outlines while keeping the same encoded character.
Questions people ask
1Why does 𗚴 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
